What is a traditional Southern children's portrait?
Being a born and raised Southern woman I have a lot of respect for and put value in tradition. When I was a young child, my mother had my brother and I sit for traditional Southern children's portraits. While my visiting my parent's home, I recently came across the framed prints on a tabletop in my mother's bedroom and it inspired me to take some of my ten-year-old son, Miller.
Portrait Style Options
To put a modern twist on these traditional Southern children's portraits I am offering two style options: black and white as well as silhouette. With Miller I wanted the image to be classic and something that would be treasured on my own bedroom dresser for years to come.
For the black and white portrait, I dressed him in black and white shirts paired with black and white backdrops to create a variety of options. I wanted the focus to be on his face without any distractions.
The silhouette does not require any special attire, I simply used creative lighting to produce the effect.
I feel like children's photos should be an accurate representation of who they are. These photos will showcase their personalities including smiles, silly faces, serious moments, and everything in between.
